Wilder is settling in this round a little better. He’s staying in the middle more and has thrown a few right hands. Still mostly lead hand shoving, but this is better. UGLY jab from Wilder and Zhang lands a left to the body. Wilder ducks a left from Zhang. Credit where due, his defense has been pretty good. But it’s all he’s showing.

At the time of writing, the Croatian’s best victory is a questionable decision triumph over Zhilei Zhang in 2022. However, it must be stressed that Hrgovic’s father passed away in the lead-up to that bout and he would have been badly distracted in camp.

In July, after recording six more knockout victories, Tyson fought former world title challenger Marvis Frazier in Glens Falls, New York, on another ABC Sports broadcast. Tyson won easily, charging at Frazier at the opening bell and hitting him with two consecutive uppercuts, the second of which knocked Frazier unconscious thirty seconds into the fight.

Wilder, who has now lost four out of his last five trips to the ring, came into this fight with the idea of retirement already on his mind. That’s never good for any boxer, especially one in the heavyweight division matched up against a proven killer like Zhang. Unfortunately for Wilder, box Saturday night didn’t result in the swan song he had hoped.

Zhang’s offense has slowed to a crawl as well. He’s getting Wilder backed up but now he’s throwing one left hand that Wilder ducks. This is devolving into sparring. Bad sparring. Wilder lands a right, Zhang a left.

In 2015, Zhang was signed to Roc Nation Sports, which Dino Duva also joined as an employee and boxing executive. Roc Nation, a music promoter, entered the boxing market in August 2014 with money but no plan. David Itskowitch, Roc Nation’s founding chief operating officer of boxing, abruptly resigned in July 2016 and Duva’s influence grew after. Roc Nation’s boxing division was in quick decline from 2018, all but ceased working in 2019 and closed down in 2020.

Wilder shoots a right hand. Zhang a left to the body. Zhang using that size early to push Wilder around. Both men taking their time. This is all about one, single shot from either side. Zhang shoots a left to the body as Wilder retreats out. Wilder fires a right that misses.

Over the years, there have been rumors that Tyson was going to get the tattoo removed, but that’s not likely to happen. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, the boxer said he likes the ink. “A lot of stuff happened out of this tattoo, a lot of good stuff, Tyson said. “Other young athletes come to me and say, It’s because of you they call it the Mike Tyson.”

The reasons behind this tattoo remain largely personal and speculative. Mao is a complex historical figure, and Tyson’s choice to have his likeness permanently etched on his body has sparked discussion and curiosity.

Nevertheless, the whole thing sparked a bigger debate about who owns the rights to tattoos when they appear in movies and media. It was a big deal because it could set a precedent for how studios handle copyrighted tattoos in the future. All said and done, it was a tense legal showdown that made everyone think twice about putting tattoos in movies without checking with the original artists first.

In 2020, while Zhang made a rare visit back home the day after Chinese New Year, his father died of a sudden cardiac arrest at home during COVID-19 lockdown in China. Zhang mistakenly believed his father to be choking and attempted the Heimlich maneuver to no avail.

He went on to add, “So he (friend) said let’s think about putting a tribal mark or something in there. And I said, okay we will do that. So he caked me a couple of days later. He brought up this tribal mark. So I said let’s do it and we did it.” Simple.

Since being stopped by Tyson Fury in their second and third meetings, which were the first losses of his pro career, Wilder has struggled to regain momentum. He rebounded from the trilogy loss to Fury by stopping Robert Helenius in 2022, but then dropped a unanimous decision to Parker, and now suffered another brutal knockout.

Zhilei Zhang knocked out Joe Joyce in brutal fashion on Saturday night in a rematch from their boxing clash earlier this year. The two heavyweight stars went at it for the WBO interim heavyweight title, and it ended in emphatic fashion. Just three rounds into the contest, Zhang knocked his opponent out cold in one of the most brutal KOs you’ll see this year.

Instead, the artist suggested a Maori tribal design on just the left side of his face. Tyson agreed to it and said he loves it. “It looks awesome,” he said. “That tattoo is me. Sometimes I see people with tattoos on their face and I’m like: ‘Woah, this guy is crazy!’ I forget that I’ve got one on my face.”
