This is in a beautiful part of North Carolina close to several cool towns. The pad is very level and the hook ups are nice and new. The view of the river is beautiful but it is a bit of a hill to access the river. My son and husband spent most of their time fishing and enjoyed the gorgeous waters. The best fishing is just down river under the bridge where it is deeper waters. If you were here in summer the river behind the campground is perfect for wadding in and not too deep. Our only suggestion is to make some privacy from the main road in which the owners plan on doing. This place has a lot of potential. Close by is Sylva which has many cute stores, restaurants and cool breweries. Dillsboro was a cute little town that was very close by. The host were quick to respond to any questions. Thanks for a cool spot to spend the weekend.

Great place! Arrived Friday afternoon and met the land owners. They gave us several suggestions on local restaurant and things to see. Site was level and with loose gravel surface easy in and easy out. Back of the sites were within 30ft from the Tuskasegee River. I look forward to returning to the Speckle Trout Campground.

Just beautiful and an overall wonderful experience. The hills surrounding the camp, the wildflowers, and the babbling river were an absolute joy to wake up to—not to mention the stunning sunrises and sunsets! Because of the orientation of camp, we had little shade all day despite using our awning, so next time we will plan to bring some tarps or shades for the sides. My father was excited to fish but due to the lower river levels and the lack of a shoreline, he was unable to. We didn’t get to explore around Cullowhee much to find a fishing spot he could get to, but it appeared the Oconaluftee River seemed more accessible. The Wi-Fi didn’t work the first day but I think the router just needed to be reset because the following days we had zero issues are were able to stream on multiple devices. They had nice, new firepits too. I couldn’t recommend it more if you’re exploring western North Carolina! Thank you Speckled Trout, we will be back!

Easily the largest campsites in the area. The Tuckasegee River was right behind our camper, which made for amazing views and a wonderful soundtrack to go to sleep to. Having some wildlife visiters was sucha nice bonus. This is our new favorite place to camp in the area, and I can’t wait to stay here again.
Such a great spot to explore the area. We stayed because of your proximity to WCU. Just minutes away from campus and our kiddo. The sites are HUGE, level, clean and my oh my the sound of the Tuck River! Cannot wait to come back asap.
Beautiful location right on the river! Bring your fly rod. Nice level pad. Convenient to WCU if you are visiting a student…cheaper than area hotels.
